Medical
assessment
When you
apply for or renew your heavy vehicle licence, you must complete a form
with questions about your fitness to drive a heavy vehicle safely.
On the
basis of this information the RTA may ask for a medical report.
NSW adopts
the national medical standards for private and commercial drivers
contained in the Assessing Fitness to Drive, Commercial and Private
Vehicle
Drivers booklet, published by AUSTROADS and approved by the Australian
Transport Council.
These
standards apply to those licence holders of class MR and higher who are
required to provide a medical report to the RTA.

to draw on his vast experience to assist new heavy vehicle drivers to be
highly competent and safe on our roads.
Competency based assessment is a more relaxed way of learning. Many
don't understand how easy it is or how much you can learn. It covers all
the basic manoeuvres; and includes; breakdown procedures, loads and
lashings and pre-departure checks.
Laurie
also includes information on the current fatigue management system,
heavy vehicle logbooks, weighbridge procedures and do's and don'ts of
